Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America Imaging Products Debuts Flexible Photo Lab Solution For Retailers At PMA 2007

March 8, 2007 — Demonstrating its commitment to provide retail markets with not simply the most advanced, reliable technology, but also outstanding integration and support, Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America today launched the Flexible Photo Lab Solution combining its state-of-the art digital photo printers, DPS Kiosk 7000 terminals and DPS Click 5000 print servers. The self-service or semi-attended Mitsubishi Flexible Photo Lab provides retailers with unparalleled ease of use, scalability and chemical lab connectivity and can accept an array of media/sources and payment/validation types.

The Mitsubishi Flexible Photo Lab Solution is also a proven entity having been successfully deployed in several European markets. The Flexible Photo Lab system comprises a behind-the-counter DPS Click 5000 as a print server accessed by up to 10 DPS Kiosk 7000 terminals and serving up to five Mitsubishi CP-9550DW-U or Mitsubishi CP-3020DAU digital photo printers. Flexible Photo Lab Solutions may be configured in a variety of production systems according to the individual store requirements and offer customers a choice of up to six different print sizes.

“The Flexible Photo Lab Solution takes much of the hard work out of photo services and provides retailers with a reliable and easily-managed-and-maintained revenue engine that, in turn, provides customers with quality and value and gives them good reasons to return to the store,” explained Darla Achey, product marketing specialist, Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America Imaging Products. “We are very excited with the performance and integration of the Flexible Photo Lab and especially confident now that it has proven itself in the European market.”

Underscoring its broad applications, the Flexible Photo Lab from Mitsubishi accepts media via Flash memory cards, CD, USB and Bluetooth. Payment can be made using cash-register-generated passwords, operator cards or pre-pay cards available in the store — methods that have been shown to enhance in-store manageability and control while limiting credit card administration and fees.

Contrasting with the challenges of chemical labs, Mitsubishi’s Flexible Photo Lab Solution features a lower capital cost and even then is more scalable so that retailers can start small and grow their business organically. Flexible Photo Lab does not require hazardous chemical handling, advanced staff training or wasteful calibration processes on slow days or when temperatures vary. Flexible Photo Lab also enjoys lower electricity costs and is significantly faster: In five minutes one Flexible Photo Lab with four printers can yield 60 to 80 prints whereas a chemical lab takes five minutes to process and print the first image!

Flexible Photo Lab also provides customers with a range of digital services that chemical minilabs simply cannot match including slide show capability, photo decorations, editing, multi print layout and photo ID and passport capability.

“Flexible Photo Lab comprehensively signals a movement away from chemical minilabs,” Achey continued. “With its compelling economics, ease of use, advanced features and quality performance, Mitsubishi Flexible Photo Lab removes any rational argument for chemical minilabs and returns control to the photo retailers where it rightly belongs!”
